Oxford University Sciences Open Day Demo
Friday 17th September, 2010
Having had an excellent turnout for the site demo the previous day, on Friday 17th September SPEAK Campaign supporters returned to South Parks Road, this time to the edge of the exclusion zone imposed in Oxford University's draconian injunction, to inform prospective students attending a Sciences Open Day of the horrors perpetrated against animals inside the laboratories of Oxford.
With the animal lab clearly in sight, inside which, at any one time, over 16, 000 non-consenting, living beings are incarcerated and abused, the campaigners set up a stall with much informative literature and petitions against Oxford's reliance on the brutal and unscientific use of animals in experimentation. Alongside this, placards and banners showing some of the victims of such research were displayed, while activists handed out leaflets and talked to the young people and their parents who were attending the Open Day, informing them of the truth about vivisection and Oxford's role in perpetuating the outrageous suffering endured by the animals involved. Many people took leaflets and listened to the facts regarding the immoral exploitation of animals by Oxford which they certainly would not be told on their sanitised tours of the University, and more signatures were collected on the campaign's petition forms.
It is the responsibility of EVERYONE to bring an end to the terrible suffering inflicted upon the animals in Oxford University's labs, particularly students, prospective students, employees and alumni, and anyone who turns a blind eye or does not speak out against it is complicit in the mutilation and death of 150, 000+ animals inside the walls of this institution each year. Join us - stand up, speak out and help bring an end to animal suffering at Oxford University, once and for all.
'Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight' - Albert Schweitzer
