January 2012 demos
Oxford University continues to use animals in barbaric experiments, therefore SPEAK supporters continue to campaign against this ethically disgraceful and scientifically fraudulent state of affairs.
This first month of 2012 has seen SPEAK supporters as determined as ever as they have gathered both opposite the new lab itself and in the city centre to protest, demonstrate, educate and debate with the public, students, academics and those who make money from cutting and slicing the animals imprisoned inside the labs.
Most of the academics who stop are more interested in the scientific argument - whether experimenting on animals does really help people or not - and pretty much dismiss the moral argument out of hand. It almost seems that if they don’t think or talk about it then they don’t have to question whether the suffering that is caused is justifiable.
But nothing can justify imprisoning, torturing and killing sentient beings who it is known suffer both physically and psychologically. Nothing can justify the £billion industry that has been built up on the backs of these poor, suffering individuals who suffer in their millions every year - all at the hands of supposedly intelligent and advanced people.
One day the human race might evolve to be civilised. One day animals will no longer be experimented on. Until that day is reached, SPEAK will fight on.
