Demos at Oxford University's Open Days
6 & 7 July 2011
This week hundreds of sixth formers were in Oxford for two days to visit the University and colleges and to find out more about the courses they’re interested in taking. They were met by SPEAK supporters who were holding information stalls and demonstrations to tell these prospective students how vile this institution really is.
Hundreds of leaflets were handed out to those visiting the science area to inform them of the 16,000 animals imprisoned in the animal lab just metres from where they were walking, and the painful fate that awaits them. Signatures were collected from those who were horrified to learn about how this university imprisons, tortures and kills animals, and many discussions were held with those who wanted to know more.
While there continues to be activists informing about the suffering of the animals at the hands of this institution, Oxford University can’t hide their dirty secret away behind the high walls and false windows of their laboratories. The researchers may try to justify the pain they cause as ‘minimal’ and ‘necessary’ but the truth is very different, and now the attendees of the open days have information and facts that the university would never give them.
