Degree Ceremony Demo

Saturday 18 June 2011

The weather might have been wet and windy but the response from a number of those graduating, the public and tourists was warming indeed.

SPEAK supporters gathered outside the Sheldonion Theatre with an information stall, placards and banners to show all those passing by the horrendous things Oxford University researchers do to over 150,000 animals every year. Hundreds of leaflets were taken by those passing by, with many stopping to discuss the issue and find out more.

It was heartening for us, though not for the University, to see so many of those graduating approaching the activists to congratulate, condone and support the protest against the animal experiments which go on behind the ‘dreaming spires’ of the city.

The message to Oxford University is clear; experimenting on animals is seen as cruel and unnecessary by more and more people as time goes by.
