Demo Reports – The first week of January 2009Three demos have been held this week to continue to get the message out there that what Oxford University do to animals is not science, it’s torture. Whether SPEAK supporters are gathered opposite the new animal torture lab or out collecting signatures in the City Centre the response from the majority of the public shows that people do give a damn about the animals imprisonaed inside the labs. However giving a damn is not enough, the animals need actions not just words if experiments on them are ever to be stopped for good. Slavery did not end because people shook their heads, said how terrible it was and signed a petition. It ended because people refused to sit back and let it go on. The things that are done to the animals in laboratories would be considered torture if it was done to people, and yet the vivisectors try to justify it by saying that it’s ok because animals are worth less than people. But that is not a reason; it is an excuse for exploitation and abuse. We must fight against this exploitation and abuse with everything we have – the animals deserve no less. So join us every Thursday on South Parks Road in the fight against the barbaric practise that is vivisection at Oxford University. |
