Demo Report - Thursday 27th November, 2008

On Thursday 27th November, 2008 SPEAK Campaign supporters came to Oxford to speak out for the rights of all the innocent, sentient beings suffering inside its university's laboratories.

While most of the campaigners took up their usual place opposite the new animal torture lab on South Parks Road for the regular weekly demo, a small group of campaigners walked round to Magdalen College, on the High Street, where the Queen and Prince Phillip were attending celebrations for the college's 550th anniversary. While the royal party was inside, the protesters, armed with banners, placards and leaflets, made everyone passing by aware of the campaign's aim to end the horrific animal cruelty that takes place within the university. As they left Magdalen and headed off for their next engagement, the royals and their entourage passed by the protest and could not have failed to have been aware of its message. After they had left, the protesters joined the others in South Parks Road who had spent the afternoon there informing the public of the brutal acts of abuse that will take place within the walls of the building that they were standing opposite, and of the campaigners' determination to see an end to it.

The life of any animal is just as valuable to that animal as the life of a human, no matter what their status, is to them. SPEAK are determined that everyone should be aware of the appalling suffering endured by the animals incarcerated inside laboratories, and of their moral obligation to bring an end to it.
