Speaking out by degreesDemo report 28th September
This time our attention was turned on a degree ceremony being held at the historic site of the Sheldonian theatre. As gowned graduates of this university of shame filed in and out of the Sheldonian they had to pass the face of Felix whose stay at Oxford University was filled with pain and despair and, unlike the graduates, left this university in a disposal bag, stripped of all dignity. It was clear from the expressions written on the faces of university security staff that this demonstration was something that caused them a great deal of discomfort, although nothing like the discomfort and terror they inflicted on Felix and thousands like him. Passers-by offered their support and told us "not to give up", something we were able to assure them we would never do. Despite the cold and rain, we remained throughout the afternoon and very few of those attending the graduation entered or left without learning why we were there and why we will continue to be there. |
