Degree Ceremony Demo Report

Saturday 6 March 2010

The first degree ceremony demo of 2010 had the added bonus of not only being seen by the people attending the ceremonies, but also by all those attending the Science Festival in Broad Street.

SPEAK supporters were present outside the Sheldonion theatre for over five hours and the response by all the extra passers-by was great, with many leaflets being handed out, one member of the public joining in with the demo for the rest of the day and one person coming out of the ceremony to offer SPEAK a donation in support. People from all walks of life are against the atrocities of vivisection, and as much as Oxford University would like it to be believed that it is an isolated small group of people campaigning against them, the truth is that the majority of people we come across on protests, stalls and other events are of the same mind - the experiments carried out on animals by Oxford University must end. The next degree ceremony demo takes place on Saturday 8 May where SPEAK will again be reminding the university that we will never abandon the animals imprisoned and tortured inside their labs.
